Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested four people in Eutawville after out-of-state bounty hunters tried to make an arrest.
According to Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, two bounty hunters, Corey W. Newkirk and Shannon E Samuel were provided information of an Orangeburg location of a wanted man with an outstanding warrant in Maryland.
Deputies say Newkirk and Samuel went to a Richardson Street address to take David Smith, Sr. into custody without notifying or any assistance of local law enforcement officers.
The bounty hunters located Smith at the home with his 7-year-old son.
Smith was then handcuffed and both he and the child were removed from the residence by Newkirk and Samuel, the report stated.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office arrived and after verification of the outstanding warrant Smith was arrested and is currently being held for Florida law enforcement officials.
Deputies say Terri Ann Smith, the mother of the 7-year-old, was also arrested after giving investigators a false name. Terri Ann Smith is charged with giving false information.
Newkirk and Samuel are each charged with two counts of kidnapping. Samuel is also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The child has been placed in emergency protective custody.
