The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men and seized cocaine, crack, and a stolen weapon after a traffic stop Wednesday night.

According to investigators, officers were patrolling on Vance Road, Vance, when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Deputies say they attempted a traffic stop, but the driver of the Buick Regal continued until eventually stopping on Dukenfield Drive.

The driver, 28-year-old Devon Shaquain Jamison, was searched and officers located more than $4,000 in cash, the report says. Officers also searched the vehicle and located a fully loaded .45 cal Ruger under the front seat of the vehicle.

A passenger, 21-year-old Rakeem Laquan Mitchum, told investigators the weapon belonged to him, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies say the gun was reported stolen from Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

The report said crack cocaine and cocaine were also located inside the vehicle.

“Our investigation indicates while Jamison was leading officers on a chase, he gave the drugs to a 15-year-old that was also a passenger in the vehicle and told him to ‘hold this,’ said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell. Jamison told investigators that he was on probation and could not be around any firearms or narcotics.”

The 15-year-old is currently being detained by the Department of Juvenile Justice on narcotics charges from the drugs located during the stop, according to Ravenell.

Ravenell concludes “Our investigators do not have ‘office hours.’ These men and women are proactive and responsive and are out during the times we are getting calls about illegal activity across the county. Every arrest, every seizure, every gun taken off the streets, has an impact on the crimes being committed in Orangeburg County.”
