Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announces the arrest of three relatives charged with helping a murder suspect leave the area.

According to a news release, 47-year-old Shirley Elaine Berry, 20-year-old Tshusima Yaki Berry and 30-year-old Stephanie Nicole Jenkins are facing three counts each of accessory after the fact for the three victims in the shooting on Maedrine Street on Monday, September 10.

Deputies say their investigation indicated that Shirley Elaine Berry made arrangements to take her son, Terrance Shawan Johnson, to Mississippi five days after the shooting in Orangeburg. 

Berry traveled to Mississippi with her daughter, Tsushima, and a cousin, Stephanie, the weekend of September 14-16 to drop off her son.

Johnson was arrested in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and the extradition process is just beginning. In the interest of safety for the officers and the suspect, details of his return to Orangeburg will not be released, sheriff’s deputies say.

“We interviewed this mother several times regarding the whereabouts of her son and she consistently told us that she didn’t know where he was,” said Sheriff Ravenell. “Relatives and friends should take note when you protect criminals, you become one too.”

Bond hearing for the Berrys and Jenkins is scheduled for Friday, September 28 at 2:30 p.m.
