The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested one man and is looking for another in the damage to an irrigation system and attempted theft of copper wire from a Eutawville farm.
According to a news release, shortly after 1 a.m. officers were called to a Harvest Court farm in Eutawville Wednesday morning, where they observed a silver Honda Accord in the field with a 12 gauge shotgun on the front seat and two sets of driver’s license, one belonging to 28-year-old Wesley Lee Craven of Bonneau.
Officers say they observed damages to the irrigation system and realized the suspect or suspects were still in the area.
A critical incident response was initiated including the call out to the K9 tracking team.
After a manhunt lasting several hours, Craven was arrested without incident approximately five miles from the farm in Eutawville.
Craven’s bond hearing is scheduled for Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Deputies say the investigation is ongoing and they are still trying to locate 24-year-old Brandon Lee Varner of Moncks Corner for his part in the damage to the irrigation system and the attempted theft of copper.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Varner, you are urged to contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
