"Give OUT Day" Aims To Raise Money for LGBTQ Community

 

On May 9th four non-profit organizations in South Carolina that work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender populations joined together to participate in the 1st national Give OUT Day for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender  Queer community (LGBTQ).

Deputy cleared in shovel-wielding suspect's death

ORANGEBURG, SC (AP) - Prosecutors say an Orangeburg County sheriff's deputy was justified when he shot and killed a suspect who was using a shovel in what was called a "threatening manner."

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported  that prosecutor David Pascoe has decided that no charges will be filed against Deputy Steve Thompson.

42-year-old Barry Caldwell was shot and killed March 19.

Pascoe made the decision after reviewing a report by the State Law Enforcement Division.

Office of Alumni Relations to Host Alumni Weekend 2013

 

SC State’s Office of Alumni Relations will host Alumni Weekend 2013 beginning Friday, May 10, 2013 and concluding on Sunday, May 12, 2013.  During this year’s Alumni Weekend, 11 classes will be featured.  Classes in reunion this year are the following: 1938, 1943, 1948, 1953, 1958, 1968, 1973, 1978, and 1983.  The class of 1988 will be honored as the silver class, representing 25 years since graduating from the University while the class of 1963 will be honored as the golden class, representing 50 years since graduating from the university.

ORANGEBURG, SC – Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina is expanding their mission services to Orangeburg.

 

The Orangeburg Job Link Center is now open and providing services to the community. The center is located inside the Orangeburg Goodwill store and features computer stations that can be accessed for job searches and resume building at no cost to the community.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - Investigators say they have arrested an Orangeburg man who stole money from his grandmother, along with her electric wheelchair.

           

Orangeburg County sheriff's deputies say 43-year-old Richard Fleener II will have a bond hearing Monday. He is charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult.

ORANGEBURG, SC (AP) - Land at the center of an alleged kickback scheme involving former South Carolina State University officials is up for auction.

The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reported that the 80-acre Sportsman's Retreat goes up for auction May 18.
