Local lottery players win $200,000 in Mega Cash | News
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A Columbia man and an Orangeburg woman each have $200,000 in winnings from the South Carolina Education Lottery. Both beat the odds of one in 500,00 to win the Mega Cash jackpot.
Mega Cash went on sale Tuesday, and both winning tickets were bought two days later.
The AM PM Foodmart 4 on Hardscrabble Rd sold the winning ticket in Columbia. After he scratched off the winning numbers, the man said he called his wife at work five times before she called him back. The man told lottery officials he was blessed to have beaten cancer and now blessed by the lottery. The couple plans to purchase a new home.
The winning Mega Cash ticket in Orangeburg was sold at Quick Pantry #35 on North Road. The woman who won said she doesn't drive on the highway anymore, so she called her son for a ride to Columbia to cash in the ticket.
“My birthday is coming up and this is a nice present,” she said.
Four top prizes of $200,000 remain in the $10 Mega Cash game. The odds of winning the top prize are one in 500,000.
For selling the claimed tickets, both the Quick Pantry #35 in Orangeburg and AM PM Foodmart 4 in Columbia received a commission of $2,000.
