ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) - High school students participating in Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps programs are competing as well as developing skills at South Carolina State University.

SC State's National Society of Pershing Rifles is hosting a junior ROTC drill competition on Saturday. Ten high schools from around the state are competing in 13 events, including six trick drill events.

This is the eighth straight year SC State has put on the program. The school says the purpose of the National Society of Pershing Rifles is to develop leadership, military science and discipline within the framework of a military oriented, honor fraternity.
