On Friday, the South Carolina Education Lottery transferred its three billionth dollar to the state in support of education.
What does this mean?
For our youngest South Carolinians this investment has meant new school buses, books and learning tools.
Our state’s talented young adults are attending college here and graduating with less student loan debt due the 1 million college scholarships and grants funded with lottery dollars.
Thanks to lottery proceeds, workers can afford to learn a new skill close to home at one of the many fine technical colleges in South Carolina.
“I say it all the time, our business is selling lottery tickets, but our passion is education,” commented the Lottery’s Executive Director Paula Harper Bethea.
“With today’s announcement of $3 billion transferred to underpin education, I couldn’t be more proud of the work this organization is doing,” Bethea said. “I hope our players and retailers will join me and take pride in knowing they have made South Carolina’s future brighter.”
