SC ranked second in nation for rate of women killed by men | News

The Violence Policy Council recently announced the U.S. rankings in the rate of women killed by men, and South Carolina is second in the nation. 

The statistics are based on crime data submitted to the FBI. The report also stated more than half of the women killed in the state were shot, while others were stabbed, hit with blunt objects or killed by bodily force.

“Awareness and education are important tools in the campaign against domestic violence. The annual walk provides a forum for increasing awareness about agencies and resources available to help victims of domestic violence,” commented Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine. “We invite and encourage the entire community to become our partners and join us for the walk.” Councilwoman Devine serves as chairperson of the City of Columbia’s Domestic Violence Task Force.

The City of Columbia will host the 6th Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Finlay Park (930 Laurel Street).  This walk is FREE to the public.  There will be a free information fair before and after the walk.
