SC’s Three State Farmers Markets to Host Spring Plant & Flower Festivals

Spring is for sprucing up your yard, and your local State Farmers Market is the perfect place to find everything you need to get the job done!  The South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s (SCDA) three Spring Plant & Flower Festivals provide the best selection of plants, flowers, and lawn and garden décor. 

The four-day festivals draw thousands of visitors to the State Farmers Markets. Check out the festival near your or make plans to shop all three. Here are the festival locations and dates:

SC State University alumnus, Maj. Gen. Abraham J. Turner has been hired as coordinator of Military and Veterans Affairs at SC State University.  In this capacity, Maj. Gen. Turner will direct the university’s Military and Veterans Friendly Campus Initiative, an initiative geared towards establishing an organizational structure in order to recruit and retain veterans to SC State.

SC State’s Long-Time Sports Information Director To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

SC State University’s long-time sports information director William “Bill” Hamilton, who is retiring June 30, 2013, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He will be honored on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at noon during the annual COSIDA Convention which will take place in Orlando, Fla. With almost 40 years in the sports information field, Hamilton is extremely excited to be receiving such a prestigious honor.

During the month of March, Lions from all across South Carolina have walked the main streets of their respective cities, towns and communities as part of the first annual “South Carolina Lions Walk for Sight” to increase public awareness of Lions’ humanitarian services in our state and around the world.  Highlighting their motto, “WE SERVE,” Lions focused public attention on their roles as servants of the less fortunate throughout the world and providers of a better quality of life to many residents of the Palmetto State.

City of Columbia Parks and Recreation’s NOMA Community Garden will be soon be getting some special visitors.  The community garden will be in included in the inaugural statewide Midlands Farm Tour happening Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7, 2013 from 1-5 p.m. on both days.
