SC State Announces Summer Orientation: “Pathway to Fall 2012” | Events
SC State University will host summer orientation sessions beginning Monday, June 25, 2012 through Thursday, June 28, 2012, according to Terrence Cummings, executive director for the Student Success and Retention Programs (SSRP). These sessions will be held for incoming first-time freshmen and other new students who will enroll at SC State University in fall 2012. All orientation sessions will begin with check-in at 8:30 a.m. in the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Auditorium. <?xml:namespace prefix = o />
“SC State University is always excited to welcome new students to the groves and classes,” said Cummings, and though the state of South Carolina has 58 independent, public, and private technical schools and colleges, Cummings touts that “SC State offers many of the best academic programs in the country. Scores of alumni attest to their success that began at SC State.”
The one-day summer orientation sessions are specially designed by Colleges to ensure that prospective new students obtain their fall 2012class schedules, secure their residential life and housing assignments, submit their state of South Carolina required health forms, learn about essential campus resources, policies, and procedures, and pay their tuition and fees, and/or make financial arrangements to meet all obligations by the University-established deadline of July 16.
On Monday, June 25, SSRP will host undecided students; on Tuesday, June 26, students with majors in the College of Business and Applied Professional Sciences (CBAPS) will attend; on Wednesday, June 27, students with majors in the College of Education, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CEHSS) are scheduled to visit, and on Thursday, June 28, students with majors in the College of Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (CSMET) will round out the week. Students must register based on the college that houses their major, must have paid the initial enrollment fee of $160 by May 31, and must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 2012-2013 at www.fafsa.ed.gov, listing South Carolina State University (003446) as the institution of choice before they can attend,” Cummings indicated.
As an element of each of the one-day orientation sessions, Cummings will conduct “Parents in College 101.” This parallel activity runs concurrently with student orientation sessions and provides parents with the opportunity to learn more about the University, ultimately helping students get the most out of the SC State experience.
