Brig. Gen. Gwendolyn Bingham to visit SC State University | Events
The U.S. Army Quartermaster General will visit SC State University on April 13, 2012 to speak to student leaders and cadets during executive speakers series and will attend the annual SC State University Army ROTC (Bulldog Battalion) Ball.
Brig. Gen. Bingham is a native of Troy, Ala. In August 1981, she graduated from the University of Alabama, located in Tuscaloosa, Ala., with a bachelor’s of science degree in General Business Management. While attending the University of Alabama, she graduated as an Army ROTC Program distinguished military student, and she was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. Brig. Gen. Bingham has a master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University, located in Mount Pleasant, Mich., and a master’s degree in National Security Strategy and Resources from the National Defense University, located in Fort McNair, DC.
She has attended numerous training schools commensurate with her rank and is the recipient of numerous military and civic awards and decorations. She has served in a myriad of staff and leadership positions throughout her career in both the United States and overseas. Brig. Gen. Bingham recently returned from deployment in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom while serving as special assistant to the Commanding General, 1st Theater Sustainment Command, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; Kabul, Afghanistan and Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Brig. Gen. Bingham is married to Dr. Patrick J. Bingham. They have two children: Tava Michelle, a May 2010 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, located in Austin, Tex. and a graduate student at the University of Central Florida, located in Orlando, Fla., and Phillip Jamal, a sophomore at Virginia Tech University, located in Blacksburg, Va.
The SC State University Army ROTC will host the 2012 ROTC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 11 a.m. in the Dr. Barbara A. Vaughan Fine Arts Recital Hall on the campus of SC State University.
The inaugural Army ROTC Program Hall of Fame induction was held in 1978, and since then more than 96 individuals have been inducted. The 2012 inductees are SC State University alums Rear Adm. John W. Smith, Jr. (US Navy), Col. Lester J. Campbell (US Army), and Col. Augustus L. Owens, II (US Army).
SC State University has produced more than 2000 officers that have served in each branch of the US Armed Forces. SC State University has produced 15 general officers to date.
