Couple charged after toddler found in rat, roach-infested house | Crime
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - An Orangeburg County couple is charged after deputies say they found a toddler living in a home they described as infested with roaches, fleas and rats.
22-year-old Henry Rippe, III and 23-year-old Amanda Dukes were arrested at their home on Till Road Wednesday.
Deputies investigating reports of drug activity at the home found a 2-year-old living in the home. The police report describes the home as "a rat, roach, flea and dog invested (sic) home."
The arrest report says the investigator noticed a strong odor of feces and urine and "was meet (sic) with large piles of garbage at the front entrance of the home." A further inspection of the home found several dead and live rats and what appeared to be dog feces on the floor that was described as "wet, slippery and slimy." The investigators also said there were spider webs and mold "all over the home."
Deputies say as they were searching for additional hazards in the house, they found Rippe hiding in a closet in the back bedroom.
DSS took custody of the child. Rippe and Dukes were taken to the Orangeburg Detention Center.
