Bank of America is giving bank cardholders free admission to some of the most exciting cultural venues nationwide.

Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3 Bank of America will offer cardholders free access to more than 150 cultural institutions in 91 cities across the United States.

In Columbia, residents and visitors can enjoy free admission to EdVenture Children’s museum.

Feb. 8, 1968 is a date that will be indelibly stamped in the minds of the people of Orangeburg, S.C. and South Carolina. On this date, SC State University students, Henry Smith and Samuel Hammond, along with 19-year-old Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School student, Delano Middleton, were slain when at least nine South Carolina Highway Patrol Officers fired shots into a crowd of people protesting segregation at a local bowling alley. 28 students were wounded during the horrific incident.

Commerce Department looks for best rural SC photo
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The state Commerce Department is looking for a photo that best captures rural life in South Carolina. The Rural Summit Photography Contest is part of the agency's Rural Summit conference, which will be held in Aiken in March. Anyone can enter a color or black-and-white photo with an entry form downloaded from the Commerce Department's website. Fifteen finalists will be chosen, and the winning photo will be picked by people attending the conference. The deadline to submit photos is Feb. 15. (Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. The South Carolina State Museum will send one lucky South Carolina school class to its spectacular new blockbuster exhibit Secrets of the Maya…for free!  In the museum’s new field trip contest, by completing the entry form on the museum’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/scstatemuseum and then clicking on the Enter Field Trip Contest tab, teachers may enter their classes from 8 a.m. Jan. 16 to Feb. 6 at midnight for a chance to win.
