COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Voters will decide next year whether church cake walks and school raffles will finally become legal in South Carolina.
    
Schools, churches and other nonprofits could hold a limited number of raffles yearly under measures approved by the Legislature earlier this month.

South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA) is urging consumers to beware of deed process mailing scams. SC homeowners are receiving official looking letters offering to provide their deed for a fee. The solicitation contains an amount due along with a due date. Many consumers may interpret the letter as a bill or otherwise be inclined to provide the fee for a copy of their deed.

Deputies find 55 pounds of pot inside Pac-Man video game

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS)- Orangeburg County Sheriff's deputies have arrested an Orangeburg man who they say tried to accept a drug delivery hidden inside a video game.

Deputies charged 30-year-old Luis Tyler with trafficking marijuana.  Undercover investigators say they saw Tyler accept delivery of a Pac-Man video game machine that contained 55 pounds of marijuana hidden inside.

Working on the tip from the undercover officers, deputies pulled Tyler over and seized the video game, marijuana and his vehicle.  Tyler was arrested.

Bond was set at $75,000.

2013 SC Waste Pesticide Recovery Collection Dates & Locations Set

The dates and locations are set for the 2013 SC Waste Pesticide Recovery Program.  Based on surveys, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) has established seven locations across the state making it easy for South Carolina farmers, foresters, nurserymen, golf course operators, and custom applicators to safely dispose of old, outdated, unusable, or unwanted pesticides. The goal of the program is to increase proper management and disposal of unwanted pesticides

Recent events in Boston and Texas emphasize the importance of knowing what to do when an emergency occurs. Even as first responders rushed into help at both scenes, much of the initial care to the injured was provided by friends, neighbors and bystanders who were trained in CPR and first aid. SC State University Board of Trustees Name  University’s 11th President, Thomas J. Elzey

 

SC State University’s Board of Trustees appointed Thomas J. Elzey as the 11th president of SC State University today. Elzey is currently employed by The Citadel. He serves as the executive vice president for Finance, Administration and Operations and The Citadel’s senior, non-academic vice president, holding the rank of brigadier general in the South Carolina Militia. Elzey will begin his duties on June 15, 2013.
